Being Possessive (The の Particle)

“We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false!” - Gollum

Hey there. Nicely done. Congrats on making it to the last “real” chapter of the season (before the review, anyways). We’ll talk more about what you’ve accomplished and what it means for you and your Japanese skillz (that’s right, with a “Z”) soon. For now, just buckle down and keep making amazing progress. You’re doing great!

This (last) chapter is all about “being possessive.” Well, actually it’s about the particle の. You’ve learned one other particle so far (remember what it is? It’s は). Lucky for you, this particle doesn’t have any strange pronunciations (you remember that the particle は is pronounced “wa,” right?), and it’s also pretty straight forward. On top of that, it’s really useful as well. Time for you to get started – first, let’s learn what the particle の does.
