This, That, & That Over There

“A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.” - Unknown

Let’s quickly take a look at the quote at the top of this chapter. “A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.”

A lot of us spend our lives trying to take the easy route, but when you think about it, the path of least resistance is also the path of least growth. If your goal in life is to never get better, and to never be a better person, then great, take the easiest route you can. But, if your goal is to become a better person and to gain skills to make your life better, then you should seek out the challenges (and the stormy waters). If you do this, difficult times in your life will be much more bearable (and possibly exciting!) and you’ll grow as a person and improve your life.

With Japanese, it’s the same as well. If you always look for the easy way out and dread studying the “difficult things” you’ll never grow as a Japanese learner. Learn to look forward to the difficulties, and learn to get bored with the easy stuff. Force yourself to see the big picture, and you’ll be alright. :)

On that note, let’s get started.
